What would the proportions of a Bratz doll be if she were a real life person?
Q. Pretty much everyone knows that if a Barbie doll were a real life person, she would be seven feet tall, and have impossible bodily proportions. So I was wondering, what proportions would a Bratz doll have if she were a real person.

How can I make myself look like a doll or puppet?
Q. So for Halloween my friends and I are dressing up like puppets/dummies/dolls from the horror movie "Dead Silence." I don't know how to come off as a demonic puppet doll. All I have as an idea is dark makeup and two line reaching from the corners of my mouth down to look like a mechanical mouth. Any ideas in terms of hair and clothes?

A. Use very shiny makeup. Do not blend colors, Use just 2 or 3 solid colors in large patterns as if somebody spent just 30 seconds painting you.

A. Oxy 10, a powerful zit cream, will get it off in a couple of days. In the morning, place a good amount of the oxy on the ink spot. Leave the doll in the sun all day. When the sun goes down, remove the oxy. Repeat until spot goes away. I did this on two of my dolls. It took about a week, but now, I can't even see where the ink once was. By the way, you can get this at most drug stores.

How can I update a doll cotume/dance routine and make it look good?
Q. I am writing an indoor routine for my winter guard. If youre not sure what winter guard is, its flags and rifles and dance, etc. The theme I am considering is a doll idea. But, its needs to be updated, and the girls on my guard would really like techno in the show. Do you have any ideas on how to make the costumes? Or any techno that you think I could get to work? Any feedback of any kind is appreciated. Thank you.

A. To update dolls, this makes me think of the robot/uniform look. I think the Jacksons may have overused this idea already, but if you look at the style Britney Spears used in Oops video (with space uniforms), obviously it is still popular. You may get ideas from anime videos, with Japanese heroines in futuristic outfits. In general, anything that looks "metallic" or "leather" might look more updated or futuristic. I think at the hardware store they sell metallic sheets that can be stuck to glass instead of replacing with real mirrors. Spray paint usually is not silver-smooth enough. For fake leather, home decorating materials may offer vinyl adhesives that you can cut and stick on to the surfaces to keep costumes… [cont.]

A. It's a compliment. I hear it alot also and it drives me nuts, but just try to smile and nod. That's what I do and it seems to work ok lol. They're basically complimenting your beauty(which most "dolls" are flawless) :)

How do I get a wooden doll unstuck?
Q. My daughter received a wooden doll as a gift from Germany, but it may be a traditional Russian gift. It is a doll in two parts, a top and a bottom, and we think that there are other, smaller dolls inside. The post office left it outside our house, and I think that the high humidity where we live caused the wood to swell or the varnish to stick. How can we get it unstuck? I have considered putting it in the freezer for a short time? Will that damage it?

A. put it in the fridge. It came from the cold, I live Florida and we have to keep the dolls near the ac vent near the shelf or they have to be chilled to be opened. And use the silica gel you can get at the craft store or the stuff that comes with electronic equipment that you just can't throw away to keep it dry in storage in future.

A. Google "Aqualand" and do a site search for Siamese doll goldfish. You just might have to order them from the far east... Apparently they are not very common in the fish trade.

Alice did when she made a Dinah doll (I would pay for her to make it but it is waaay to expensive). You know how you can do make-up things with a dollfie. I was thinking to design a doll to make it look better my way. What kind of paint I need you know? Oh and by the way, How much is a bleeding edge doll and where can you buy them? Make sure all materials you list come in as a low budget of $5-10

A. Ebay should have all the materials and all the informational books that you need to do this. I looked into it once and then decided that I didn't have steady enough hands to re-paint and re-work a doll. They are called OOAK dolls on Ebay and you can look under that for one of a kind dolls, for instructions and materials on how to do this, you can look under re-painting dolls instructions or materials, whichever you choose to look under first. There is also a wealth of info on the internet under the same headings.

A. You really need to be able to do your homework on this subject. First you need to identify the dolls/makers. Then once you know what kind of dolls you have try the next website. You can also try looking on Ebay to compare what the going rate maybe on the dolls. Hopefully these websites will also help you; Good luck!!

A. If these are intended for kids, and you're in the US or intend to sell in the US, don't go any farther until you've read about the new CPSIA regs (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act). These affect ALL products intended for use by children under the age of 12. The link I'm going to give you is specifically for small clothing manufacturers, but there are links from there to the handmade toy alliance, etc. At the moment, the regs are essentially that all products are guilty until proven innocent by some fairly expensive lab tests, in certified labs. and a large new chunk of the law goes into effect 10 Feb 2009. This is a law with some big sharp teeth, so I urge you read things carefully. and -- then search CPSIA

Tahoe City I will say that if the eyes have fallen out and rolling around the head, the glass is very fragile, I think the doll should have what we call a pate under the wig, carefully lift the wig do not pull from the back with an exto knife cut around the circle pull up the pate and take the eyes out and wrap in soft tissue. If its broken save every scrap, because I can glue those eyes back to the full position, so most should be able to. A. You are finding out what other sellers are finding out; The economy is in the dumpers, and any prospective buyers will give you low-ball offers. In short. it's a buyers' market in homes, and most everything else, including dolls. Many people who have not lost their homes to foreclosure are buying only necessities. Count your blessings if your family is not affected. Do you need to sell them quickly? If not, here is what I would do. The economy will improve, but it will be 2, and more than likely 3 years before it does. Carefully pack your dolls and store them in a cool, dry place. Unpack and sell them in 2013. As a side benefit, they may actually increase in value during this time. You have to be like doctors and nurses: Have 'patients.' ;- [cont.]

What type of adhesive do I use to repair my porcelain doll?
Q. I have a 44" doll porcelain head, shoulders, stuffed body, porcelain lower arms and lower leg. She fell over, on hrdwood floor. Apparently stand was too small to support her weight. Clean break completely across back of shoulder, separating front shoulder with head from back shoulder blades. Would like to reglue, and of course super glue doesn't bond to this porous material. Designer numbered doll. Any suggestions? And if know where I can find a taller, sturdier stand as I have no carpeting for a soft landing, should this happen again.

A. I took a ceramics class and my favorite piece broke. My teacher was a very well-known potter in the mid-west named Paul Dressang. He suggested regular Elmer's glue and it worked like a dream. That was a number of years ago and my piece is still holding up. Supposedly, the bond will be as strong the actual material. This works because the material is porous. It will work with all clays, woods, etc. The nice thing about it is that Elmer's dries clear so you won't see it.
