Need help with the name of an "antique?" doll...?
Q. I have old "dolls". I will do my best to explain what they look like and maybe someone can help me out. I need to know what they are called and what they are worth. My parents keep calling them carnival dolls and coopie (not sure how to spell that) dolls, but when I google those words I can not find what I am looking for. They are not dolls you would play with. They were more of a collectible or decoration. They stand up, and they always have very prety dresses on. This is the hard part to explain. The face was made out of string, and the eyes were painted on. I hope someone knows what I am taking about.. The head was plastic or something with threads of string covering it to make it look like the color of the face. I believe the… [cont.]

How many parents out there are actually purchasing the "bratz dolls" for the under 8 set?
Q. I recently attended a TWO year olds birthday party that was themed around the bratz dolls. This child recieved at least 2 dozen pieces of bratz merchandise and to be honest I thought they were bit sexual for a such a young child. The images on the sheets were girls with full blown floozy make up on and teeny tiny hot pants pjs...I disturbs me and I am hoping that these dolls are generaly aimed at older childern (say like 13?) I find them disturbing. What kind of a message are people sending to their children? On more then one occasion I had parents, with their children with them (as young as about 3 or 4) picking out the one they don't already have and then turning and commenting to me about how cute these dolls were!!! Cute? A far cry from cute if you ask me. What happened to Cabbage Patch Dolls, and Strawberry Short Cake? Now that is CUTE! Found old dolls, Barbie, Shirley Temple and some even much much older. How can I find out if they are antique
Q. My 95 year old grandmother recently passed away. In going through her attic I have found some very interesting dolls. One is a Barbie in the box from Mattell inc. 1962 another is a Shirley Temple doll with outfits still in the original boxes. How can I find out if they are worth anything??
Asked by mail4cme - Sat Apr 19 20:20:49 2008 - Toys - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Check e Bay. If you can, find out the details of the doll (year, make, etc.) and honestly, e Bay is the most truthful answer. You can watch shows like Antique Roadshow, and they can say how much something is worth, but the important thing is to find out what the buyer will pay. Check out e Bay, even by putting in "Shirley Temple doll" or "Mattel Barbie 1962", and see what comes up. Also take into account that the dolls being sold may be in perfect condition, or worn. Calculate that into your general mathematics of what it would be worth. I guarantee that those are worth something, especially if they are still in good condition. Good luck!

How old does a car have to be to get an "Antique" tag in Georgia?
Q. I am going to buy an '86 Mercury Grand Marquis, and I was wondering how old a car has to be for me to be able to get an "Antique car" tag. I live in Georgia.
Asked by Dallas R - Wed Jul 23 18:03:03 2008 - Insurance & Registration - 3 Answers - Comments
A. To qualify for these tags, your vehicle must be over 25 years old. Or, your vehicle must be designed and manufactured to replicate an antique vehicle. The registration fee is $20, and there isn't a special tag fee. You may transfer the tags to another antique vehicle in your possession. If you wish to display the Georgia plate coinciding with the vehicle's model year, you'll have to complete an affidavit, and the vehicle must be from 1970 or earlier. Take the form to a county tag agent office, where a visual inspection on the vehicle must be completed. Remember to keep the current tags in the vehicle at all times, along with the affidavit.

Is an 11 year old "too old" to play with baby dolls?
Q. My cousin is 11 and in 5th grade, and she has American Girl dolls and likes to play with them with her friends. But she wants to get a Bitty Baby doll too, to go with her American Girls, and her mom refuses to let her because she says she's "at the age where girls stop playing with baby dolls." That doesn't really make sense to me, especially since she plays with other dolls. How is a baby doll really much different than other dolls? I don't think she should be encouraging her to grow up too fast. So if you had an 11 year old who asked for a Bitty Baby doll, would you refuse to let them get one just because you think they are "too old?" Actually, the Bitty Baby dolls are quite a bit cheaper than the regular AG dolls.… [cont.]

How old does an "item", such as a chair, picture, jewelry, lamps, have to be before it is called an Antique?
Q. I currently have household furniture & Table Lamps that are from the late 1960s' to the early 1970s' and would like to know if they are called "Antique, or Retro". What would they be listed as if I was to advertise them in a classified ad.

A. Antique means 100+ years old. Vintage or retro means 25 years old or older. Don't believe people who tell you that antiques are any younger than 100 years. Go to www.m-w.com, the dictionary--specifically here: a definition of the word "antique," which specifically mentions 100 years.

Doll with "foreign" engraved on the back - Antique?
Q. Hello I have a small porcelin/china/clay doll given to me from a relative. I think it is an antique. It is small and white and looks very old It has the word FOREIGN engraved onto the back. Can anyone help me identify it? Thanks

A. I think that your doll IS old. Your best bet would be to find a local doll dealer or doll club and ask their opinion on how you could identify your doll. Try the United Federation of Doll Clubs web site to see if there is a club in your area, or an appraiser that could look at some photos you send, for a reasonable fee. Here is a link to a web site that features a bisque doll that is marked foreign on the back. When I copied the link, the doll was at the bottom of the page. I did a quick net search and there are others with dolls marked foreign who would also like to know about them. One possibility is that they were patented not only for the country of manufacture but for foreign patents, as well. Good luck. I hope you find out more about… [cont.]
