A. This is referred to as an all Bisque or sugar candy doll. Many of these dolls were made in Japan and if you look on the back you should see the country of manufacture. These dolls have been produced since the 1800's but German and Japan were most popular in the 1920's and because of the world Wars they lost out in Germany and they were produced in japan. The ones from Japan were not fired with the color and it will wash off, so you have to be very careful. The French one produced over time are the most expensive and sell for thousand of dollars. Referred to as French Pupee de Poche - Mignonette or small pocket doll. I personally have a collection of these dolls but I do not have the money for a french one. Some are even used in doll houses. Doll with "foreign" engraved on the back - Antique?
Q. Hello I have a small porcelin/china/clay doll given to me from a relative. I think it is an antique. It is small and white and looks very old It has the word FOREIGN engraved onto the back. Can anyone help me identify it? Thanks

A. I think that your doll IS old. Your best bet would be to find a local doll dealer or doll club and ask their opinion on how you could identify your doll. Try the United Federation of Doll Clubs web site to see if there is a club in your area, or an appraiser that could look at some photos you send, for a reasonable fee. Here is a link to a web site that features a bisque doll that is marked foreign on the back. When I copied the link, the doll was at the bottom of the page. I did a quick net search and there are others with dolls marked foreign who would also like to know about them. One possibility is that they were patented not only for the country of manufacture but for foreign patents, as well. Good luck. I hope you find out more about… [cont.]

Are "Dream of Doll" dolls Dollfies?
Q. For those who know about Dollfie dolls, could you please help me out??? You see, I was under the impression that there were a gazillion different Dollfies out there, but on their website> there doesn't seem to be that many. Also I was particularly curious about Dream of Doll> - Are these also Dollfies, just sold on an alternate website? If so, why don't they have as many at the official Dolfie site? Thanks to all those who help out.

A. Dollfie is a brand name of the Volks Company of Japan. Dream of Doll is another company in Korea. Both make Asian Ball Jointed Dolls, but only Volks makes Dollfies.

A. Go to the craft store like Joann. Look where the Christmas stuff is by floral. No problem; pick up a pack of teensy ornaments for it too. A tree around 24" would be perfect.

A. The Deluxe factory was best known for Penny Bright they are not the most valued dolls on the older collectible market, To be an antique they have to be 100 years old so she is still collectible like me. Here is a bit about the factory. I would suggest you set your search engines for a watch on ebay so when one comes up for sale you can get a value; Deluxe Reading sold their dolls or toys under a number of company names; Deluxe, Deluxe Reading, Deluxe Premium Corp, Deluxe Topper, Deluxe Toy Creations, Topper Toys & Topper Corp. They are probably best known for the Dawn doll series. Deluxe Reading dolls were sold in the 1950's - 1970's through supermarket's and are often referred to as Grocery Store Dolls. is there a doll made that is like the 8" Betsy Mccall dolls from the 50's?
Q. My daughter had one we got from a thrift store but It fell apart and she wants a new one but to buy them is over $100. She is keeping the clothes until we find a replacement doll
Asked by rara4h - Sun Dec 12 23:48:52 2010 - Toys - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Robert Tonner (a great doll artist) did produce some new Betsy Mc Calls. These can be found on ebay. He also produced a Tiny Ann Estelle with the Betsy body. The main difference between these dolls, aside from the face, is that the Betsy has "swing-out" arms while Tiny Ann's are straight. I collect both dolls.

How many parents out there are actually purchasing the "bratz dolls" for the under 8 set?
Q. I recently attended a TWO year olds birthday party that was themed around the bratz dolls. This child recieved at least 2 dozen pieces of bratz merchandise and to be honest I thought they were bit sexual for a such a young child. My daughters birthday rolled around and the same couple who threw the bratz party bought my 2 year old a bratz sheet set for her "big girl bed" . The images on the sheets were girls with full blown floozy make up on and teeny tiny hot pants pjs...I disturbs me and I am hoping that these dolls are generaly aimed at older childern (say like 13?) I am just curious as to the trends others have seen and if in fact it is normal for such young children to play with toys like this...thanks! Okay okay I suppose I… [cont.]

A. Thank god, I am not alone. I am only 24 and I do not have any children, but I used to work at a wal mart. It was amazing to see how fast they sold and who they were selling to. I find them disturbing. What kind of a message are people sending to their children? On more then one occasion I had parents, with their children with them (as young as about 3 or 4) picking out the one they don't already have and then turning and commenting to me about how cute these dolls were!!! Cute? A far cry from cute if you ask me. What happened to Cabbage Patch Dolls, and Strawberry Short Cake? Now that is CUTE! I can tell you if I had any children, that would be the last thing in the world I would be letting them play with. Even if they are meant to be… [cont.]
