How can I make myself look like a doll or puppet?
Q. So for Halloween my friends and I are dressing up like puppets/dummies/dolls from the horror movie "Dead Silence." I don't know how to come off as a demonic puppet doll. All I have as an idea is dark makeup and two line reaching from the corners of my mouth down to look like a mechanical mouth. Any ideas in terms of hair and clothes?

A. Use very shiny makeup. Do not blend colors, Use just 2 or 3 solid colors in large patterns as if somebody spent just 30 seconds painting you.

Why did the green vampire want to kill Dorothy in the puppet land? Wizard of Oz?
Q. I just dont understand why the vampire wanted to eat Dorothy. Was it because she stole the fruit off the tree in puppet land?

A. It's not a green vampire. It's the vengeful Wicked Witch of the West played by Margaret Hamilton. She wants to kill Dorothy for the death of her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, and take her magical ruby slippers.

What's the name of that puppet show with semi-human characters that have orange faces and a shaggy dog?
Q. They have orange faces, a tuft of yellow hair and they also have a spotty and very shaggy and hairy dog. Any idea what they are? Also, if you know a website with a list of puppet tv show programs, it'd be helpful. It's a children's puppet show, by the way.

I would love to know about an antique I have. Its a Chinese puppet made out of bamboo and china?
Q. It is a Chineese puppet with a very beautiful face made from carved bamboo under painted porcelain. How do I go about researching it? I've spent hours searching the internet with no avail.

A. actually antique chinese decors or relics do not really use bamboo as their medium, chinese usually use porcelain jade, bronze, gold and thing like that, somewhat that it would stand for years, bamboo in chinese are usually used by the commoners as chopstick, but if it is used as a medium it would be questionable. It might not be chinese who would used puppets made up of bamboo, they would rather use silk cloths and tin in making puppets, usually dragans for dragon dance. you might having a puppet from thailand. be careful with some of those puppets especially antique ones, they are very mysterious specifically those use during the days of their old rituals, some of them are death mask usually used for sacrifice.

Will a northland puppet minnow work for largemouths through thr ice?
Q. For those of u who dont know, the puppet minnow is a about two and a half inch long horizontal minnow with hooks on each side and a treble hook on the bottom. I'm fishing in my pond with largemouth 12-20 inches long and I'm wondering if this lure will work. there is no basic structer except for various clumps of weeds and algy. Also what other lures will work?
Asked by Jordan - Sun Jan 23 15:23:21 2011 - Fishing - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Generally, Puppet Minnows (and Rapala Ice Jigs- kinda the same thing), don't work well for Bass under the ice. Could you catch one using it? Sure! But it isn't a high "percentage lure". When the water gets that cold, Bass tend to go into a "hibernation-like mode" and won't chase ANY forage... Out of all the times I've been Ice fishing, (which is numerous), I've only caught 2 Bass, (and they were on accident). I suggest you try Live Fathead Minnows or Shiners. I think you'll have better luck with bait... (However, the Puppet works well for Pike, Walleye, and Jumbo Perch.) Make sure to check your local laws if you plan on keeping any Bass. Here in MN Bass are off- limits during this period.

A. maybe a brown sock with googly eyes or felt eyes ,two small, black buttons for nostrils. Black yarn or thread for whiskers, and you could cut the cotton off of one end of some white q-tips for tusks. And thenpoke them through the sock ad fasten with thread inside. I havent tried this, but thought maybe it might work to resemble a walrus.

What instruments are used in puppet shows?
Q. I've heard a trend in puppet show's from Potter's Puppet Pal's, Crystal Pony, and real live puppet shows of using the same musical instrument's. I was hoping that they weren't all conducted via electronic, although they somewhat have the musical tone of old video game's. Can someone help identify some of the instrument's used in puppet show's? I know there's an organ usually, but what else? Listed either in general or specific to a show. There has to be instrument's as puppet show's were done before epectronic music used.

A. I think the rumour you heard is unfounded. Puppet shows use whatever music/instruments are appropriate to the context of their play. There are any number of considerations, from whether or not it is "traditional" puppet shows (ie. performed the way they have been for hundreds of years), whether the show is touring, access to musical performers and cost of instruments, themes and atmosphere in the play itself, access to or knowledge of how to use electronic music creators, and so on. One company may use recorded voices for their puppets for one show, and live music the next; or combine the two for a mix of live/recorded. Some shows use wind/percussion (ie. Asian shadow puppetry), and some might use strings (ie. Japanese bunraku… [cont.]
